Switch networks and keep your number

A simple outline of common UK mobile switching steps.

Reviewed 11 October 2026 · General consumer information

You can usually move your number to another UK mobile network. Before you switch, check coverage, the existing agreement’s end date and any early termination costs.

Check your contract first

Confirm whether you are outside your minimum term and whether you have a device finance balance or separate obligations.

Request your PAC

In the UK, you can generally text PAC to 65075 from the number you want to keep. Your existing provider will explain any relevant obligations. The PAC normally stays valid for 30 days.

Give your PAC to the new provider

Order the new SIM and follow its number-transfer instructions. The receiving network coordinates the transfer. Keep an eye out for confirmation and temporary service interruption.

Check after the transfer

Test calls, texts, mobile data and two-factor authentication, then review your old account’s final bill. If something goes wrong, contact the network handling the move directly.
